Winter sickness and Vaccinations

As you all know the standard winter sickness has plagued my household in particular my youngest. He was sick over his 6 month birthday and for the entire month afterwards. My bubba suffered chest infections, bronchitis, he had an ear infection and he wasn't stabilising his temperature.

Anyone who has kids knows how hard it is to have to watch as your children suffer from sickness which is why I am certainly pro-vaccinations. I had been waiting till my baby was feeling better before heading down to the doctors for Lucas' 6 months injections. However, three weeks after his birthday I received a call from a nurse at my local doctors, "Lucas is due his 6 month immunisations" she said. I then explained his situation.

What happened next both terrifies me and confuses me. She then explained to me, because I was receiving CCS (Childcare subsidy) I needed to come in and get the immunisation done or Centrelink would cut my payments. I told her I would get a medical certificate and just forward that onto Centrelink if the time came. The nurse then proceeded to tell me that another family in her care had already tried that and the payments have been cancelled. For fear of having to pay massive childcare fees, I made an appointment with the doctor to get Lucas the all clear, then waited for a moment in the day where his temperature was stable without Panadol and went and got him vaccinated.

The days that followed weren't pleasant, Lucas didn't settle well, he got all the side effects from the vaccine and it was horrible to watch.
