As a child my father used to read to my sister and I just before bed. I had a favourite book that I knew off by heart (despite the fact I couldn't read). I knew if he would cheat and skip pages, or if he would change the words. When we had William, James and I said we would attempt to read to him every night. As apart of our bed time routine almost every night James or I will read William a book. A few nights back, I dug into my work resources and pulled out the 30th anniversary edition of "We're going on a bear hunt". I sat down next to William, put on my best "educator" voice and began to read. Fast forward to tonight and once again I'm reading "We're going on a bear hunt". I'm so happy William has found a book he likes. We take a walk with the family and William uses his big boy voice to point out the little things he knows within the pictures, he remembers key words in the book saying them as we read, and at the end we wave goodnight and blow a kiss to the bear. A book like this is just perfect for my big 2 year old, there is lots of repetition giving William a sense of independence as he begins to learn to read.
