PND or Postnatal Depression affects mums all over Australia, whether it be new mums or mums who have 'been there, done that'. When we gave birth to William PND came knocking on our door however, it wasn't for me, and if not me then who? When you arrive home with your beautiful bundle of joy, you receive a visit from a midwife who will ask you to answer some simple questions regarding your mental health. Here is where we let the wonderful dads down. See James, my husband, was one of the many father's who suffered from PND when his world got turned upside down after bringing home a baby, it was so tough to watch as he struggled to build a bond with our baby and he began to second guess everything he did. We put so much emphasis on PND and so we should but I feel we need to put more emphasis on what bringing home a baby does to fathers (or partners).
