It takes a village to raise a kid or so I've been told. However, usually this saying refers to the grandparents, aunties and other immediate family from either side. That is not the case these days, although it still does take a village to raise a kid the village has changed. The age of grandparents may have stayed the same but the age of retirement has gone up so grandparents are no longer so readily available for assistance. That's if you live near your parents, it's not uncommon for people to move away from their hometown and reside somewhere else. So what does the village look like. Well my village is filled with both people I know and people whom I have never met. Support is what you gain from your village, support and knowledge from people who are dealing with exactly the same situation or have previously dealt with it. My village is spread through Australia, through our immediate family, our friends and the childcare workers who provide a place of friendship and care for my boys. I'm also apart of Facebook groups who are always available for advice or a chat when I need it most. These are our villages and even though it sometimes seems like we are alone, there is always someone who is available for a chat and there is always someone who is going through the same thing and could either offer advice or just let you know you're not alone!
